Shale Hills Dog Park is Western Sydney Parkland’s largest off-leash dog area, featuring 2-hectares of open space with state-of-the-art dog agility and self-guided training facilities and two separate dog areas.
Come along with your four-legged friends to enjoy a training circuit with 10 activity stations, agility course featuring tunnel, balance beams, rest boxes and weave poles, free run area, fresh water fountains and scented garden with lavender, thyme, chamomile and mint.
Shale Hills Dog Park will be open to the public from 22 February 2020.
Shale Hills Dog Park is open to pedestrians 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Vehicle access is from 6AM-6PM (8PM in daylight savings).
Yes, there is a 70-space car park accessible via the entry road at the corner of Second Avenue and Mannow Avenue, West Hoxton.
It is currently free to park.
Yes, there are 2 permanent accessible car spots available to mobility parking permit holders. Any person displaying a mobility parking permit can park in any of these bays for an unlimited period.
Dogs that are a registered breed and have been declared dangerous are prohibited from the off-leash area and the rest of the park.
Dogs that are in season ('on heat') are prohibited from the dog park and should not be in the general park either.
Dogs MUST be on leash prior to entering and upon leaving the off-leash area.
Yes, the park is fully fenced.
Yes. There are two separate fenced areas for dogs to enjoy.
Yes, there are separate drinking water fountains for dogs and people.
Yes, the terrace features a number of shade umbrella structures and dog respite area. There is also advanced native tree plantings including Melaleuca Grove, Spotted Gums, Figs and Eucalyptus which will continue to mature and provide more shade in the area.
There are currently no toilets onsite. The closest toilets are located at Plough and Harrow.
Yes, dog waste bins will be available and attached to bin enclosures.
Yes, bins are available at three different locations.
Yes, dogs are permitted on the Parklands tracks and trails on-lead and supervised at all times.
All plants in the sensory garden are safe for dogs, including English Lavender, Lemon-scented Thyme, Chamomile Sunray, Native Mint Bush, Pale Vanilla Lily, Prostrate Rosemary and more.

There’s plenty of activities for your dog enjoy including free running space, grassed slopes and play mounds to explore, dog agility area and training circuit, a sensory garden and perimeter track with dog training stops.
All dogs must be kept supervised and under control by a competent person over 16 years of age. Children under the age of 16 years must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Shale Hills Dog Park is provided for the enjoyment of you and your dog(s). You are legally responsible for the actions of the dog(s) you bring to the park. To ensure the off-leash area remains a safe and fun environment for the community the following entry conditions apply:
All dogs must be kept supervised and under control by a competent person over 16 years of age.
Children under the age of 16 years must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
You must never leave your dog unattended in the park.
Please clean up after your dog by using the bags and bins provided.
Do not litter. Small items such as cigarette butts can be deadly to dogs.
Do not allow your dog(s) to dig.
Dogs must be on leash prior to entering and upon leaving the off-leash area.
No more than four (4) dogs per person at any one time. All commercial activities must be approved by Western Sydney Parklands Trust.
Dogs must be wearing a collar and name tag which includes your address/phone number.
Dogs that are in season ('on heat') are prohibited from this area and should not be in the general park either.
Dogs that are a registered breed and have been declared dangerous are prohibited from the off-leash area and the rest of the park.
Dogs displaying signs of aggression are to be removed by the owner immediately.
Your dog’s vaccinations must be current or they could spread or pick up a contagious disease.
Owners must comply with the responsibilities set out in the Companion Animals Act.
The use of skateboards, bikes, roller blades, remote control devices or any other recreational activities of a similar nature are prohibited in the off-leash area.
On the spot fines may apply to any contravention of the Companion Animal Act or the Western Sydney Parklands Act and Regulation.
