Western Sydney Parklands and Athletics Australia today announced the new ‘Get Back on Track Challenge’ – a series of personal walking and running challenges across 60 kilometres of tracks and trails in Western Sydney Parklands.

Western Sydney Parklands is the largest urban park in Australia, spanning 27 kilometres across 5,280 hectares – 14 times the combined size of the Royal Botanic Gardens, the Domain, Centennial Park and Moore Park.

The free ‘Get Back on Track’ challenge is a partnership with Athletics Australia’s RunWest Festival from August 1 – August 30. Participants can register online, choosing from six courses across Blacktown, Fairfield and Liverpool. Options are available to suit all fitness levels and abilities ranging from 1.6km – 6.7km distances.

Western Sydney Parklands Executive Director, Suellen Fitzgerald said participants can enter challenges with friends, family or solo and run or walk at their own pace, in their own time while social distancing.

“This challenge offers a chance to get outdoors in nature and embrace the physical and mental benefits of our green spaces,” Ms Fitzgerald said.

“It’s a fantastic way to showcase our network of tracks and trails through beautiful natural bushland with an abundance of wildlife and award-winning playgrounds and picnic facilities,” Ms Fitzgerald said.

Athletics Australia Vice President and Chair of RunWest Festival, Jan Swinhoe said the Get Back on Track Challenge is a fantastic extension of RunWest’s existing partnership with Western Sydney Parklands Trust.

“The core objective of RunWest is to provide opportunities to enhance the health and wellbeing of the Western Sydney community,” Ms Swinhoe said.

“We are proud to partner with Western Sydney Parklands to deliver this innovative program that helps to amplify our purpose and provide greater opportunities for participants to explore the incredible tracks and trails of the parklands,’ Swinhoe said.

Participants can enter for free and receive a downloadable race bib and GPX file for their chosen course which can be uploaded to a device or fitness tracking platform or pay $29.95 to receive a finisher’s medal, discount entry to RunWest 2020 and the chance to win prizes.

All registered participants will also receive a downloadable finisher certificate.
